Marco Brambilla: After Utopia

November 26, 2025–February 22, 2026
The Wolfsonian–FIU @ 1001 Washington Avenue

A video installation by contemporary artist Marco Brambilla, After Utopia explores how we grapple with ideas about the future. Brambilla uses artificial intelligence (AI) and computer graphics (CG) to construct virtual landscapes inspired by world's fairs, combining and animating images of iconic structures from 19th-, 20th-, and 21st-century expositions. Reimagined together and interpreted through new tools, these visual symbols of nostalgia and optimism create surreal scenes—each an expression of our aspirations toward better living through technology. Brambilla pulled from The Wolfsonian's archives to shape his work, which is shown in dialogue with the collection exhibition World's Fairs: Visions of Tomorrow.

A Work in Progress

Learn how Brambilla drew inspiration from the Wolfsonian collection, collaborating with chief curator Silvia Barisione and chief librarian Frank Luca.
