Our virtual movie chats continue with a look at John Akomfrah's The Last Angel of History. Following the journey of a time-traveling "data-thief" who seeks a code embedded within the evolution of Black music, the film takes the viewer through archival footage, photography, and interviews with musicians, writers, and cultural historians. Watch on your own schedule (available on VimeoOVID, or Docuseek) and then gather with us to reflect on the relationship between Black musical traditions, outer space, and futuristic visions. Featured speakers include Carter Jackson-Brown of Ad Hoc Cinema and Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist/composer Angel Bat Dawid.

Watch the recorded talk online.
