Then + Now: Martha Stewart for The Wolfsonian–FIU
February 20–March 12, 2020
The Wolfsonian–FIU @ 1001 Washington Avenue
In this pop-up installation within Art and Design in the Modern Age, American businesswoman, writer, and television personality Martha Stewart looked back at 20th-century cooking, cleaning, dining, and living, and drew connections to today. Bringing her unique personal and professional spin to the galleries, Stewart uncovered iconic Wolfsonian objects, placing them in dialogue with present-day counterparts drawn from her private collection, her own design line, and other brands. Wolfsonian works that inspire her included: Kubus glass containers by German industrial designer Wilhelm Wagenfeld; a Cimbali espresso machine, itself the height of Italian Art Deco design; an oversized industrial pasta maker; a Fairfax vacuum cleaner; and a thermos carafe by American industrial designer Henry Dreyfuss.
Then + Now was organized by The Wolfsonian–FIU and Martha Stewart and made possible by the Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival. The Wolfsonian thanks the project's many lenders including Martha Stewart, Breville, KitchenAid, Miele, Macy’s, and Corksicle.
