Through the Lens

The Wolfsonian–FIU @ 1001 Washington Avenue

Pulling back the curtain on the machinery of museums, Lia Shaw's photographic composites document the staff, partners, and intensive work that make Wolfsonian public experiences a reality. Through the Lens presented nine of her artistic vignettes, each layering selections culled from hundreds of photographs captured during the Florida International University alum's year-long student internship with The Wolfsonian. Combining images of tours, events, and finished exhibitions with shots captured behind the scenes, Shaw blends the museum's inner and outer worlds, finding beauty in labor and in the art and objects that inspire the Wolfsonian team.

Through the Lens was an installation presented in the Wolfsonian lobby and Bridge Tender House (Josephine Baker Pavilion) along Washington Avenue. An FIU Humanities Edge intern during the 2021–22 season, Lia Shaw is now a Miami-based photographer and creative professional.
