New Voices. New Works

December 1, 2009–January 31, 2010
The Wolfsonian–FIU @ 1001 Washington Avenue

New Voices. New Works was a series of site-specific installations curated by contemporary designer Todd Oldham. It was presented during Art Basel Miami Beach 2009 as a multifaceted project comprised of five separate but interrelated installations in the museum’s galleries, on the building’s façade, and in the Bridge Tender House.

Featured works were: Megan Whitmarsh’s Trash Mountain and Recursive Objects, two sculptural contemplations inspired by The Wolfsonian’s collection; Brock Shorno’s series of short videos, New Men & Unusuals, that explored the relationship between viewer and art object; Beauty Is Embarrassing, an architectural intervention by Wayne White that figuratively become the giant id of the institution’s collection of art and design; and Oldham’s own installation juxtaposing Wolfsonian objects to invite the viewer to make connections, find meaning, and ultimately create his or her own stories about the objects.
