Beyond Nietzsche: The Music of Peter Gast

As editor, confidant, and collaborator, Peter Gast (1854–1918) helped usher Friedrich Nietzsche's writing into the world, yet the composer's own music remains relatively unknown. This evening of live performance and storytelling explores Gast's fascinating career, his relationship with Nietzsche, and the lyrical music he left behind. The night of conversation and song features FIU associate professor of voice Robert B. Dundas and The Wolfsonian's chief librarian Frank Luca as well as digitization specialist—and soprano!—Hannah Gauthier. Accompanied by pianist Juvenal Correa-Salas, they will bring Gast's story and music to life.
Presented with the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany and the FIU Wertheim School of Music & the Performing Arts.
