When Miami Beach Went to War
Date: Thursday, January 16, 2025
Time: 6–9pm
Location: The Wolfsonian–FIU @ 1001 Washington Avenue
During World War II, Miami Beach was transformed from a vibrant tourist destination into a bustling military training ground. Discover the surprising wartime role the city played with an off-site guided tour of Galería Ocean Drive's outdoor exhibition in Lummus Park, Boot Camp in Paradise: World War II in Miami Beach. After the tour, return to The Wolfsonian to experience a library open house, exploring Judith Berson-Levison's "Sand in Their Boots" archive of Miami Beach WWII memorabilia, and AV Club's curated screening of short films that reflect on the legacy of WWII.
Organized with the City of Miami Beach, Galería Ocean Drive, and Miami Dade-Public Library System's Division of Special Collections & Archives. Galería Ocean Drive is curated by the Miami Beach Office of the Mayor and Commission.
