Home Is Where the Horror Is: Candyman

Some horror movies combine cheap thrills with biting social commentary. The 2021 sequel to 1992's original Candyman is an example, setting a tale about a host of vengeful spirits within a condemned Chicago public housing project and tackling connections among art, race, and gentrification. Watch the finale of our summer haunted house film series at O Cinema South Beach and stay for a discussion led by filmmaker Faren Humes on what Candyman has to say about the displacement of communities in American cities.

Presented in partnership with O Cinema South Beach and Popcorn Frights Film Festival as part of The Wolfsonian's Mark Mamolen program series on American homes, investigating how the design of living space powerfully expresses individual personality and social values.
