When Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1935, the Fascist state waged a propaganda campaign to legitimize its conquest of an independent nation. In his latest animated short, Ethiopian-born, Brooklyn-based artist Ezra Wube—featured in Art of Illumination, 2016—renders Italy's "fairytales" about Ethiopia in vivid color, using his signature stop-motion technique and integrating visual materials from the Wolfsonian collection. This program will feature a screening of Una Favola Vera (A True Fairytale) followed by an artist presentation and conversation with David Rifkind, FIU associate professor of architecture and Wolfsonian Public Humanities Lab faculty fellow.

Presented in partnership with WPHL.
