Harlem Renaissance Book Club: The New Negro

Location: Hampton Art Lovers at Historic Ward Rooming House @ 249 NW 9th Street

Dive into iconic texts featured in our new show Silhouettes: Image and Word in the Harlem Renaissance through a three-part, exhibition-inspired book club. Hosted at Hampton Art Lovers and facilitated by FIU English professor Shawn Christian, our first meeting focuses on Alain Locke's The New Negro: An Interpretation, a collection of essays, poetry, and fiction highlighting African and African American art and literature. This program series, providing an opportunity to discover and discuss influential writing from the Harlem Renaissance, will continue with Claude McKay's Banjo (March) and Zora Neale Hurston's Mules and Men (May). Details on text selections will be shared upon registration.
